Back From My Trip(yahoooooooo!)

Hi Everyone! I just came back from my trip overseas! When I was there,I saw only two species of birds(I was in the city the whole time). However,I saw a bird that I haven't seen before: The Laughing Dove. The other species of bird that I saw was the good old House Sparrow. Which reminds me that I should start a new Identify The Bird game.Here it is:

Remembering The Extinct Birds(Hawaiian Honeyeaters)

You can guess what this post is all about from the title. This is about birds that have gone extinct. Here are some of them,from the Moho Genus of Hawaiian Honeyeaters:



Moho apicalis(O'ahu 'O'o),Extinct Since 1837:

Moho Bishopi(Bishop's 'O'o),Extinct Since 1904:
Moho nobilis(Hawai'i 'O'o),Extinct Since 1934:Moho braccatus(Kaua'i 'O'o),Extinct Since 1987(?):



Chaetoptila angustipluma(Kioea),Extinct Since around 1859:
There is some mystery surrounding the cause of extinction of all of the Moho genus('O'o's),and the cause of extinction is not known for the Kioea.In fact,most Hawaiian natives didn't know that the Kioea existed! On the other hand, the 'O'o's were very well known and were hunted for their feathers. If you want to know more,check these links out:

The Ideal Birdwatcher Part 2.

Hi There! I now have a list of equipment for amateur birdwatchers:

1. Binoculars(a must for any birdwatcher!)

2. Basic bird guide(like the Stoke's Beginner's Guide to Birds,a good beginner's book and my first bird book!)

3. Camera(optional)

As you can see,the difference between the equipment of an amateur birdwatcher and an experienced one is very small. The difference mainly depends on the level of experience.

For those who got stuck on the last photo hunt...

Try again! What job does a person do with the sea? Its a fishy clue! Also,who is upon the mantle of country? And his he kingly enough to seat upon the mantle?

Another picture hunt!

Hi again! Here's another few clues in order to help you find the bird:

1. Look for this bird,which is noble, and a peasant at the same time.

2. What kind of peasant is he? Think about a small business,which has to do with the sea!

3. What kind of nobleman is he? He has the mantle,the mantle of country!

4.Now that you know his family's name, here's his looks: He has a blue robe,a goldish-amber crown and shirt,and a silver collar too!

Hi! Here is another bird related activity: a bird Picture hunt! I'll give you clues,and you try to find the picture of a bird I selected. Here are the clues:

1.A video of a bird,whose bill is hard, look at its family,for it is large.

2. Now that you know what to look,find a website, whose last name is part of a definition book.

3. Now type in the family,and take a look: is there anything from the first clue that can help you look?

4. Now that you found the picture,congratulations! Your reward is a pound of knowledge!

Here is some things you need if you want to do some heavy-duty birdwatching.Note that things with this(*) in front of tips mean that they are optional:


1. Binoculars(A must for any birdwatcher!)
